What is a Competition Lot?

Coffee at the highest standard

The peak of award-winning coffees

A Competition Lot is a special category: coffees evaluated by Q Graders in international competitions that achieve the highest scores. They sit above everyday specialty coffee in quality expectations.

Every Competition Lot goes through full SCA cupping protocols. While 85+ can define the category broadly, at Los Andes we only offer Competition Lots from 88+ upward.

  • Q Grader–backed scored by internationally certified experts.
  • Strictly limited often only a few hundred kilograms per lot.
  • Distinct processing the best of experimental and traditional methods.
  • Full traceability every step from farm to cup is documented.

Why is it different?

What makes a Competition Lot stand out

Competition standards

These coffees earned top jury marks internationally across aroma, flavour, body, acidity and balance.

Scientific evaluation

Trained Q Graders assess to SCA standards using blind cupping — objective criteria, not opinion alone.

Rare and valuable

Very small volumes; a producer may only yield a few bags at this quality in a year.

Innovative processing

Many lots use honey, natural and experimental techniques beyond classic washed processing.

Distinct microclimates

Often sourced from parcels with ideal altitude, soil and climate — frequently micro lots.

Producer story

Behind every lot is a farming family with years of dedication to their craft.
